About us
About Us
We have donated to several orphanages to in Ghana.
In Ghana, many brilliant children from underprivileged backgrounds are unable to pursue their education due to financial constraints. Simultaneously, some widows, orphans and elderly individuals often face significant challenges in accessing and affording healthcare services. These issues not only hinder personal development but also affect the broader socio-economic progress of communities.
Nana Afua Care Outreach is committed to addressing these challenges by providing educational support to needy but brilliant children and assisting elderly individuals with their medical expenses. We believe that with the right support, these individuals can lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society.
THE NEED FOR IMPACT
In many Ghanaian communities, bright children are forced to abandon their education due to financial difficulties. Simultaneously, elderly citizens face critical health issues without the means to afford proper treatment. Additionally, widows and orphans following the passing on their main benefactors are exposed to unimaginable hardships. We believe that with collaborative efforts, we can uplift these vulnerable groups and create a ripple effect of change and empowerment across society.
OBJECTIVES
Educational Support: Provide scholarships, educational materials, and mentorship programs to brilliant children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Healthcare Assistance: Offer financial support to elderly individuals for medical treatments, medications, and hospital bills.
Community Engagement: Raise awareness about the challenges faced by these vulnerable groups and mobilize resources to support them.
Education
According to UNICEF Ghana, children with disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds face significant barriers to education, including stigma, discrimination, and lack of resources. These challenges result in high dropout rates and limited opportunities for these children to realize their potential.
Healthcare for the Elderly
A study published in the International Journal for Equity in Health revealed that poor older people in rural Ghana often finance their healthcare through personal income, family support, and limited government grants. They spend between GH¢ 20 and 250 on drugs, laboratory tests, and hospitalization each time they access healthcare services. Many rely on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) grants, which range from GH¢ 64 to 106 bi-monthly, an amount often insufficient to cover medical expenses.
Widows and Orphans
- In Ghana, widows and orphans face significant challenges related to poverty, social exclusion, and cultural practices. Here’s a fair idea of the situation per data from Ghana National Household Registry. As of 2018, the Upper East was touted as having over 61,000 widows, out of which 75% were extremely poor, while 61% of employable widows were unemployed. These numbers have increased.
- The Department of Social Welfare estimated approximately 1.2 million orphans and vulnerable children in Ghana as of 2015 many of whom were homeless, neglected, or had developmental disabilities.
Many of these children experience physical and sexual abuse, highlighting the need for protective measures and family-based care solutions.
